2. American Airlines flight to Miami delayed after pilot falls ill
The pilot and a passenger are being treated at a Nashville hospital, but expected to be fine. The flight will arrive in Miami late Friday.

An American Airlines Boeing 777 flying from Chicago to Miami was diverted to Nashville Friday afternoon after its pilot fell ill.
“I don’t have the details as to what his illness was,” said Tim Smith, a spokesman for the airline. The 213 passengers and 10 crew members were never in danger, he said. The first officer for Flight 2050 landed the plane about 12:30 p.m. The plane, scheduled to arrive in Miami at 2:40 p.m., left O’Hare International Airport about 11:15 a.m.
When Nashville Fire Department officials arrived to treat the pilot, another patient also became sick, said Deputy Chief Kim Lawson. The pilot and passenger were taken to Summit Medical Center in Nashville, and were in stable and “non-serious” condition.
“We don’t think the illnesses were related in any way,” Lawson said.
Boeing 777s are typically used for international flights, Smith said. But there was a “crew availability issue” for the smaller Boeing 757, and officials decided to fly the larger plane to Miami, an international gateway for the airline.
“It was just a coincidence that they were using it,” Smith said.
Though the 777 isn’t used in regularly scheduled Nashville flights, the airport can accommodate them, said Emily Richard, an airport spokeswoman. The flight’s first officer, who typically assists the captain in flying, landed the plane without incident at an open gate, Smith said.
The airline flew another 777 pilot from Dallas to Nashville, who would fly the plane to Miami. The flight arrived in Miami at 9:19 p.m...
